How I got "Off the Tools" with content.

My first business was a garden maintenance company. My goal long term when starting was to get off the tools.

Here's key ways content helped me achieve that:

Attracting the dream team:

  • I looked at what made a great team member for me & what in my business would bring value to their career

  • Armed with a list of ideas (asking existing team members helped) I made content to speak to an audience on those points

  • Through content sharing the values of the business, career plans for my team, our ambitions & culture- this helped people get to know the people that made up the company

The result?..

As I recruited I started to find a theme within people, they came to an interview/trial shift knowing the business, knowing our ethos & our culture. They had clarity on the business’ vision & wanted to be part of it. A key to getting off the tools is a great team to work on the tools in your business, right?

Attracting dream clients:

Now that growing team needed clients to work for!

  • I looked at my list of clients & picked apart what I most liked about them; location, personality, financial position

  • With those points I looked at what they most wanted from their garden, what was their dream? (Asking them helped) & that gave me a list of pain points & desires

  • I made content speaking directly to that audience addressing those points, loads of videos, blogs, images, etc.

  • I stayed consistent uploading to socials & updated the website.

The result?..

After months of consistency I found that when I asked (which I always made sure to ask) “are you getting other quotes in for your garden?” I got a resounding “Yes, we got recommendations, but when we did our research we came across you guys & found everything so helpful, your video on x, y, z has helped us get to know you & we trust your ability- clearly you’re an expert.”

And, the best thing that often followed this…

“When can you start?”

The combination helped with building my team, getting great clients & the content for each supported the other. Future employees got to see the work we do, prospects got to see the team that will look after them. Over time this is what played a key part in successfully getting: Off the Tools.

Plus, a few other tricks within Operations using content, but that you’ll discover through Pink Panda in the months to come…
